Meet The Huard Family
Forget about power cords. When it's time to re-energize, Brock and Molly Huard of Redmond prefer to un-plug from technology and recharge at Suncadia - 6,400 acres nature-kissed meadows, woodlands and streams on the east edge of the Cascade Mountains within the Wenatchee National Forest. With demanding jobs and three busy kids, their decision to build a vacation house in Prospector's Reach in this AAA four-diamond luxury resort community - barely an hour from their Eastside home - was what Brock calls "a non-starter.
"It's such a great location," the TV college-football and ESPN/Seattle sports radio broadcaster says. "What's so nice and convenient - especially now that our kids are busy with soccer, basketball and other school activities - is that we can head over after all of that on a Saturday - even if it's just for a 24-hour stay, to get away from it all."
Now that their youngest son has moved from riding in a backpack to pedaling his own bicycle with training wheels, Brock says he and Molly call themselves "a Suncadia biking family." And now the kids can take their basketball ball or their soccer ball and head over to the park to play.
"These are the kinds of activities we did as a kid 20 years ago - where kids go and make their own fun, play in the woods, collect golf balls," Huard says. "It's a place where kids don't have to be digital.
"This is exactly why we bought at Suncadia: it's for our kids. It's a place for all of us to disconnect," he continues. "We know things get busy, and we need to have balance, so this is a place where we can come not just for ourselves, but to entertain immediate family and our friends for many, many years to come.
"Not to be corny, but when we have first-timers here, and they experience sitting out by the campfire at night, they often realize that they need something like this because they're at risk of getting caught up in the rat-race," says Huard. "Sure, we have Internet connections, but we find guests don't turn on their computers or check their emails because they follow suit with us."
"We've been here for a few years, and it still feels like a totally different place every time we get here," Huard adds. "The kids love it; we love it. It's such a blessing."
