Suncadia Cycling Festival

June 27-29, 2014

1 Long Weekend, 2 Incredible Nights, 3 Great Rides!

This fondo-style cycling event is the perfect mix of dirt, pavement and gravel cycling with three great courses celebrating the beauty and charm of Suncadia and neighboring towns on the sunny side of Washington's Cascade Range.

  • Friday, June 27, 5:00pm:   12 or 18 Mile Mountain Bike Course, $10.00
  • Saturday, June 28, 8:00am:   20, 40, 65 Mile Road Ride, $10.00
  • Sunday, June 29, 8:00am:   45 Mile Gravel Ride, $10.00

Friday, June 27th - Evening Mountain Bike Ride

Friday evening kicks off with the mountain bike ride. Your choice of easier (12 miles) or harder (18 miles) routes. The easier route hammers through single-track along the cliff top overlooking the Cle Elum River, the south end of the Cle Elum Lake and back to Suncadia's Nelson Dairy Farm for the finish line. Keep an eye out for elk, deer, osprey and bald eagles on this route. The harder route starts with 7 miles of single-track through the Roslyn Urban Forest with quick climbs and even quicker descents. After you are well warmed up, you will cross over to the Cle Elum River and finish with the same loop as the easier route.

Saturday, June 28th - Morning Road Ride

The road ride starts with a brief rolling enclosure through Suncadia and the town of Cle Elum. At the edge of downtown Cle Elum, you will be set free for a beautiful rolling route that sits on the margin between forest and farm land. Follow the ribbon of road alongside working farms, open pastures and tree-dotted hills. The second half of the ride features views of the Enchantment Range with Mt. Stewart on the top (Washington's 2nd tallest, non-volcanic mountain). This view is one of Washington's finest. 65 miles for the long, 40 for the medium and 20 for the casual.

Sunday, June 29th - Morning Gravel Ride

The gravel route is easier terrain than the mountain bike route and shorter than the road route, but don't be fooled into thinking it's easy. This challenging 45 mile route will start on a little dirt then a little blacktop before turning onto the first touch of gravel and the biggest climb of the weekend. You will grind through beautiful forest until you reach the high points that give way to views on the neighboring valley of the Teanaways. From here you will descend down a fast dirt and gravel road to the West Fork Teanaway River. Climbing is not done yet. You will climb again up and over to another tributary, the Middle Fork Teanaway before the steepest descent and onto a beautiful, scenic road section with views of the Enchantment Range to the North. Then smooth blacktop welcomes you back into Cle Elum for your final stretch of gravel on the Coal Mine trail and Cemetery Road back into the Nelson Dairy Farm for the grand finale of the weekend.

The Lodge at Suncadia is offering registered participants in the Suncadia Cycling Festival a special room rate.  To access this special room promotion, please review your registration confirmation email for promotion code and link to booking website.  If you are not a participant in the Suncadia Cycling Festival, be sure to check out the Stay section of our website to learn about our lodging special offers and accommodations.  There is no unauthorized overnight camping allowed on Suncadia property.

Limited mechanical support is available on festival grounds.  It's always best to have your own personal plan and supplies when you do any ride.

It is hard to say what's right or wrong for three different courses. You might end up bringing more than one bike if you'd like to do more than one ride. Of course, mountain bikes will work best for Friday's mountain bike rides, road bikes for Saturday's ride, and your cross-bike or preferred gravel grinder for Sunday.

You will receive a super cool limited edition Suncadia Cycling Festival cycling beanie; well thought out and well marked courses to ride; well-stocked refuel station and festival to enjoy after your ride.  We will also post the times of top finishers for bragging rights.

  • There will be aid stations, but it is good practice to be as self-sufficient as possible on these types of rides. As to the weather, it will likely be sunny and warm, but in the Pacific Northwest anything can happen. Bring on the adventure
  • All riders are required to wear a helmet that complies with US CPSC safety standards.
  • Be considerate of other riders when passing or being passed. While timing is offered, this is a casual fondo-style event, not a race.
  • While there is a mechanic station at the festival, participants should be prepared to be self-supported while on the course. This also applies to Saturday's road ride, no SAG support is provided.
  • Littering is unacceptable, will not be tolerated and is bad karma anyway.
  • Always abide by the laws and rules of the road and/or governing land agency.
